Davide Frattesi feels that having a tougher draw in the Champions League round of sixteen has to be an extra motivation for Inter Milan.

The Italian international spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, after the Nerazzurri played out a 0-0 draw against Real Sociedad this evening.

Inter will not finish top of their Champions League group.

The Nerazzurri needed a win in order to clinch top spot, and were unable to get one against La Real this evening. The match ended in a goalless draw.

This means that Inter will almost certainly face one of Europe’s heavy-hitters in the next round.

The likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Manchester City have all already finished top of their groups.

And then the likes of Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Barcelona are the other teams that the Nerazzurri could potentially come up against in the round of sixteen.

Certainly, none of these would be any less that formidable draws for Inter.

But from the perspective of Nerazzurri midfielder Frattesi, that just has to inspired the team.

Inter already showed last season that they can go toe-to-toe with anyone.

The Nerazzurri knocked out the likes of Barcelona, Porto, Benfica, and AC Milan. Then in the final of last season’s edition of the competition they pushed City all the way despite losing 1-0 in the end.

Davide Frattesi: Tough Champions League Draw Extra Motivation For Inter

Asked if facing a top side in the next round will be extra motivation, Frattesi replied “Of course.”

He continued that “We’re Inter.”

“We have a duty to win against everyone. Even the top teams.”

“This gives us an extra motivation,” he said of the prospect of facing one of Europe’s elite.

“We’re excited,” Frattesi added.

“Now we’ll focus on the league, where we’re currently top of the table.”

And of the draw this evening, Frattesi said that “La Real are a strong team that knows how to play with the ball.”
