Defender Francesco Acerbi feels Inter Milan are capable of going far in the Champions League knockouts even against top opposition.

The 34-year-old spoke to InterTV after the Nerazzurri’s 0-0 draw against Real Sociedad this evening, via FCInterNews.

Inter will not finish top of their Champions League group.

The Nerazzurri needed a win in order to clinch top spot, and were unable to get one against La Real this evening. The match ended in a goalless draw.

This means that Inter will almost certainly face one of Europe’s heavy-hitters in the next round.

The likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Manchester City have all already finished top of their groups.

And then the likes of Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Barcelona are the other teams that the Nerazzurri could potentially come up against in the round of sixteen.

Certainly, none of these would be any less that formidable draws for Inter.

But from the perspective of Nerazzurri midfielder Frattesi, that just has to inspired the team.

Inter already showed last season that they can go toe-to-toe with anyone.

The Nerazzurri knocked out the likes of Barcelona, Porto, Benfica, and AC Milan. Then in the final of last season’s edition of the competition they pushed City all the way despite losing 1-0 in the end.

Acerbi: Inter Can Go Far In Champions League Against Any Opposition

“This team can go far,” Acerbi said after the match. “As we’ve always shown.”

“Tonight we wanted to win, but they were a very good side.”

He said that “We played our game. They didn’t have any great opportunities in the end.”

“If we remain humble, and stay a team, we can go far.”

Acerbi said that “We’re a team and we fight.”

And the Inter defender also praised his teammate, goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

“He’s an excellent goalkeeper,” Acerbi said of the former Bayern Munich keeper.

“Focused, confident, and always very active in the game.”

“In terms of concentration he doesn’t have anything to envy anyone,” the 34-year-old said of his teammate.
