Wingback Carlos Augusto was tested out on the right side in training ahead of Sunday’s Serie A match between Lazio and Inter Milan.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has a bit of a dilemma on the right side of the pitch for Sunday evening’s match.
The coach has just one specialist right-wingback available to him if Juan Cuadrado is unable to play.
Denzel Dumfries is still out with an injury. And Cuadrado may well be unable to play due to his persistent tendon problems.
Therefore, Matteo Darmian may be the only specialist right-wingback available for the match.
But the 34-year-old former Manchester United man may also be needed in defense.
That is because Benjamin Pavard is still unlikely to start the match.
Therefore, with Darmian unable to be in two places at once, Inzaghi will have a decision to make.
Carlos Augusto Tested At Right-Wingback Ahead Of Lazio Vs Inter Clash
One possible solution would be to start young German defender Yann Bisseck in defense.
The 23-year-old had already started on the right of the defense against Udinese on Saturday.
This enabled Darmian to play at right-wingback.
And Inzaghi could go with the same setup next Sunday against Lazio.
But according to Sky, the coach is also trying out a different, more improvised solution.
24-year-old former Monza wingback Augusto has already shown his versatility by playing on the left side of the back three in recent matches.
But the Brazilian international could make a further positional change.
Sky report that Inzaghi has been testing Augusto out on the right flank. The 24-year-old could fill in there for Sunday’s match away to Lazio, the broadcaster suggests.
However, Sky anticipates, Bisseck is still the favourite to start, with Darmian starting at wingback.
