Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri will reportedly avoid risking Alessio Romagnoli in Sunday’s showdown against Inter Milan.

The 28-year-old has been a stalwart at the back for the Biancocelesti since joining the club in the summer of 2022.

The Italy international ended his spell as AC Milan captain to join his beloved club on a free transfer.

But after making 12 appearances in Serie A this season, he had to skip the last three fixtures with a calf injury.

So according to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, Sarri won’t rush the defender’s return to action despite his selection headaches.

The former Napoli, Chelsea and Juventus tactician is also without the services of Patric who’s suffering from flu symptoms.

Therefore, the source expects Sarri to field 23-year-old Spanish defender Mario Gila alongside Nicolo Casale at the heart of the defense.

Former Inter Milan transfer target Manuel Lazzari should start at right-back, with the versatile Adam Marusic taking the opposite flank.

In the middle of the park, the young Nicolo Rovella will operate as a deep-lying midfielder. Summer signing Mateo Guendouzi and Luis Alberto complete the midfield trio.

Lazio captain Ciro Immobile will spearhead the team’s charge. Felipe Anderson and Mattia Zaccagni will take the wings.

The match takes place at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. It kicks off on Sunday at 20:45 CET.

The two sides will also collide in Saudi Arabia next month in the semi-final of the Italian Super Cup.

PROBABLE LAZIO (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Casale, Gila, Marusic; Guendouzi, Rovella, Luis Alberto; Felipe Anderson, Immobile, Zaccagni.
