Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta discussed the situation at the club amidst the injury woes of Juan Cuadrado.

The Nerazzurri official spoke to the press ahead of the top Serie A clash against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

Simone Inzaghi’s men can open up a four-point gap on top of the table with a win tonight following Juve’s 1-1 draw in Genoa.

However, the 66-year-old is urging his players to focus on the pitch rather than the standings.

“It’s a match like many others, in which we’re looking for the three points, but also for continuity in terms of performances,” said Marotta in his pre-match interview with DAZN via FcInterNews.

“Let’s not look at the current rankings which say something but not much.

“I would say that our team is made up of serious professionals who have now learned to motivate themselves, with the help of Inzaghi. But they absolutely know what they have to do.”

Marotta also touched on the subject of the transfer market. Many expect the club to act in January and add in a replacement for Juan Cuadrado.

The Colombian will undergo surgery which will rule him out of action for several months.

Yet, the former Juventus general director insists that his club won’t make any panic buys, but will carefully reflect on the matter.

“Injuries are part of the sport. But we have built a squad with good depth. But we don’t want to leave anything unturned. We can evaluate the things we must do as soon as there is a need.

“We will discuss the situation with Inzaghi, Ausilio and Baccin, but there are no alarm bells. We are a team that fully responds to our objectives and which, above all, is doing well on the pitch.”

Finally, Marotta downplayed talks of contract renewals before Christmas, while denying any links between Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s extension and the possible arrival of Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski.

“I don’t know, these are certainly dynamics that all companies are facing. We do it calmly and cautiously.

“Today we are focused on this match, tomorrow we will think about the Coppa Italia, then about Lecce. Priority goes to the commitments on the pitch.”

“Mkhitaryan is a great professional who has demonstrated his quality with his impressive displays. There are no comparisons to make because he has his great identity and value.”
