The Champions League Round of 16 draw has pitted Inter Milan against Atletico Madrid and their manager Diego Simeone.

The draw took place on Monday at 12:00 CET. It resulted in a host of interesting matchups for the second round of the competition.

As for the Nerazzurri, they received a tough draw against the finalists of the 2014 and 2016 editions.

The Serie A leaders finished second in their group despite never tasting defeat. They won three matches and drew as many, including two against Real Sociedad.

Eventually, Simone Inzaghi’s men finished on par with the Spaniards. However, Sociedad had the upper hand in the standings thanks to a superior goal difference.

Therefore, Inter found themselves staring at a tough draw against one of the other group winners.

Aside from Real Sociedad, Inter could have drawn any of the other seven group winners in the draw since none of them is a Serie A side.
