Simone Inzaghi is not hiding the fact that Inter Milan are keeping a close eye on the transfer market during the January window.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset ahead of this evening’s Coppa Italia clash with Bologna, via FCInterNews. He also made clear that the team are taking the Coppa very seriously.

Inter are in the midst of a busy December fixture list.

The Nerazzurri are playing more or less twice a week. Today’s match against Bologna in the Coppa Italia round of sixteen comes just three days after facing Lazio in Serie A.

And in three more days, Inter will be in action once again. They host Lecce at the San Siro on Saturday evening.

This is naturally putting Inter’s squad depth to the test.

And furthermore, such a busy schedule does look to be exposing areas where the Nerazzurri’s squad is not sufficient, particularly where injuries are taking their toll.

The right flank looks to be a key area where Inter may decide to intervene in January.

The Nerazzurri will miss Juan Cuadrado for a few months as he recovers from surgery. And moreover, Denzel Dumfries is still out for another week or two.

Meanwhile, there are also questions about the viability of Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez in attack. This could mean that Inter move for a striker next month.

Simone Inzaghi: Inter Paying Attention To Transfer Market In January

Asked whether Inter are thinking about making any signings next month, Inzaghi was clear in his reply. “Yes, absolutely,” the coach said.

“We’ve lost Cuadrado,” he noted. “Who had to have surgery.”

He continued that “The club is paying close attention. They’re evaluating.”

“There are three matches left before the start of 2024. Then we’ll plan everything out.”

Asked whether the absence of Alexis Sanchez with a muscle problem is an issue for the team, Inzaghi replied “Yes, but not just him.”

“We have de Vrij, Dumfries, and Cuadrado all currently out,” the coach noted.

“Therefore, we’re struggling a bit to be able to rotate the team.”

“I’ve still decided to make some changes,” Inzaghi said of his starting eleven against Bologna. “But still, our goal is to move on to the next round against a team who are currently in great form.”

“We’re up against a difficult opponent, who are in great form and have a clearly defined style of play,” the Inter coach continued.

“It won’t be easy. But we’re taking this competition very seriously, we want to reach the quarterfinals.”
