Legendary former Inter Milan captain Beppe Bergomi admits that he hates to hear that his commentary isn’t “Interista” enough.

The former defender spoke to Turin-based newspaper La Stampa in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

It would be a major understatement to call Bergomi a player with a strong connection to Inter.

The former Italian international spent two decades with the Nerazzurri, between 1979 and 1999.

Bergomi made a total of 754 appearances in an Inter shirt. He went on to become one of the club’s most iconic ever captains.

The 59-year-old has become a kind of symbol of his former team, due to his long association and his loyalty to the Nerazzurri throughout his playing career.

This has certainly pervaded Bergomi’s career since he’s hung up his boots as well.

The former defender has become one of Italian football’s most recognizable pundits.

He is also a commentator on matches for Italian television.

Naturally, Bergomi often gives special focus to his old team Inter. The 59-year-old can hardly hide his sympathies in that respect.

But at the same time, Bergomi can also be objective in analyzing the Nerazzurri’s rivals.

And according to the former Inter captain, he isn’t too bothered when it comes to accusations that he has a bias in favour of his former club Inter.

Rather, it is the other way around that can really upset him.

Bergomi: Rather Be Too “Interista” Than Not Enough

Asked whether he suffers when there are controversies around his commentating, Bergomi replied, “Always when people say I’m not Interista enough.”

“Sometimes, I’m also criticized for being the opposite,” he noted.

“But that doesn’t make me suffer,” Bergomi noted.

The former defender admitted that “If I watch Inter at home it eats away at my nerves.”

“I can’t even sit still,” he said of watching his old side on television at home.

“But when I’m on commentary, professionalism takes over,” Bergomi assured.
