Former Nerazzurri defender Daniele Adani feels that Inter Milan’s “backup” players proved to be decisive in their victory over Lecce.

The former defender spoke to Italian broadcaster RAI Radio, via FCInterNews. He gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 win in their last Serie A match before Christmas.

Inter kept their momentum going at the top of the Serie A table with a win over Lecce on Saturday.

It was a fairly routine win in the end. There were a couple of scares at Inter’s end, and it took nearly the entire first half for the Nerazzurri to finally break through.

But on the balance of play and the chances created, it did appear relatively comfortable.

Inter defender Yann Bisseck was the scorer of the first goal of the match.

Just a few weeks, the German was still a bit-part player. But injuries to teammates like Benjamin Pavard and Stefan de Vrij have handed Bisseck more of a role.

Then in the second half, striker Marko Arnautovic assisted Nicolo Barella for the second goal of the match.

The Austrian did so via a brilliant improvised backheel.

Neither of Bisseck or Arnautovic are among the first-choice starters for Inter. But both showed on Saturday that their contirbution can be useful and even decisive at moments in the Serie A title race.

Adani: Inter “Backup” Players Decisive Vs Lecce

“There come times when even the backup players become like new starters,” Adani suggested.

“It’s no coincidence that the 1-0 goal came from Bisseck, who’s playing very well.”

“And then it’s Arnautovic who creates the second goal. It’s an absolutely top-level backheel assist.”

Adani noted that “Both the goals came from backup players.”

“That’s an important thing when the team are dealing with a lot of injuries.”
