Wingback Denzel Dumfries is still a doubt for Firday’s Serie A match between Genoa and Inter Milan.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Dutchman continued to train individually today.

For the past few weeks, Dumfries has been on the sidelines with a thigh strain.

The 27-year-old former PSV wingback picked up the muscle injury during a Serie A win away to Napoli early this month.

Inter have not been keen to rush Dumfries back from the injury. The aim has been to give the player ample time to recover and build up fitness.

That way, the Dutchman would not risk reinjury, and can return at his best physically speaking.

The target has long looked to be Friday’s match against Genoa.

That would have Dumfries a few months to return from his injury, which was in line with the initial prognosis for his muscle strain.

But now, it looks increasingly uncertain as to whether or not the 27-year-old will be able to feature on Friday.

Denzel Dumfries A Doubt For Genoa Vs Inter Clash

According to the Gazzetta, Dumfries was not in full training with the rest of the Inter squad today.

The Dutchman continued to work individually on his fitness.

This naturally casts doubt on whether or not Dumfries will be able to be a part of the Serie A match away to Genoa just two days from today.

In any event, it never looked probable that the 27-year-old would start Friday’s match.

Considering that he would only just be coming back from an injury, it would be far likelier that Dumfries would have started on the bench.

Matteo Darmian remains favourite to start on the right flank.

Then Dumfries could be an option as a substitute during the match. He could also use some minutes off the bench to gain fitness.

But now it seems more uncertain whether Dumfries would even be ready for that.
