The President of Hungarian club Ferencvaros admits that coach Dejan Stankovic has the ambition to one day take charge of Inter Milan.

Speaking to Hungarian broadcaster Fradi TV, via FCInterNews, the club’s President Gabor Kubatov made clear that Stankovic is happy to be at his club, but also dream of a return to the Nerazzurri.

Stankovic is currently in charge of Ferencvaros.

The former midfielder took the helm of the Hungarian giants in the fall.

Stankovic has been a coach for a few years now. The Serb began his coaching career in 2019 at his old team Red Star Belgrade.

Stankovic enjoyed a fairly successful stint in charge of Red Star.

Then last season, the 2010 Treble winner made the return to Serie A as a coach for the first time. He took charge of the Blucerchiati over the second half of last campaign.

Sampdoria were battling relegation when Stankovic took over.

The ex-midfielder was unable to keep the Ligurians up from that position.

But that doesn’t mean that Stankovic is finished coaching in Serie A necessarily.

Ferencvaros President: Dejan Stankovic Still Dreaming Of Inter Return

During his playing days, Stankovic became an iconic player within Italian football.

First, the Serbian international shone for Lazio. Then, after making the move to Inter, Stankovic became one of the best midfielders in the Nerazzurri’s modern history.

The Serb won plenty of trophies wearing an Inter shirt.

In the 2009-10 season, Stankovic was part of the Nerazzurri team that won an historic European Treble.

So it is natural why the former midfielder would feel a certain attraction to the idea of returning to Inter as coach.

Kubatov explained how this affects the coach’s connection to Inter is an asset.

“Dejan wants to eventually coach Inter,” he admitted.

“That means that he has a lot to bring to the table, because of his ambition. He wants to win at all costs.”

“Furthermore, Dejan wanted to join us,” the Frerencvaros President continued.

“He said, ‘Mr. President, give me this team.'”

“It’s no coincidence that we found a financial agreement in about ten minutes,” Kubatov said.

“We’re only at the beginning of our work, the true face of the team will show itself in the spring.”

“But given the indications, we haven’t made the wrong decision,” the President added of Ferencvaros appointing Stankovic.
