Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu feels that it will be vital for the Nerazzurri to stay switched-on against Genoa this evening.
The Turkish international spoke to InterTV ahead of the match, via FCInterNews.
This evening, Inter take on Genoa in their final match of 2023.
It’s been a busy calendar year for the Nerazzurri. After an up-and-down league campaign last season, Inter capped it off by winning the Coppa Italia and finishing as runners-up in the Champions League.
Seventeen matches into this season, Inter’s form in Serie A has been far more consistent.
The Nerazzurri have managed to build up a four-point advantage at this stage of the campaign.
They can temporarily make it seven if they are to get a win over Genoa. That would certainly put the pressure on second-place Juventus to take three points against Roma tomorrow.
But winning will not be easy for Inter against a Genoa team who have proven a formidable side in their first season back in Serie A.
Hakan Calhanoglu Emphasizes Staying Switched-On Vs Genoa
“I believe Genoa are a good team with excellent players,” Calhanoglu said.
“They deserve to be in Serie A.”
“They’ve always played well against the big teams,” the 29-year-old former AC Milan midfielder noted.
“And we know that they play great matches at home.”
“It’s a hot stadium, a difficult away ground, but we hope to end the year with a win,” Calhanoglu said.
As far as how Inter have prepared for this evening’s match, Calhanoglu said “Like any other match. We always do our job the same as ever.”
“We always prepare for matches with the same concentration and desire.”
The Turk noted that “Tonight the details will be decisive.”
“The ball is never out here because the stadium is small,” he noted.
“We have to be strong in duels and stay switched-on,” Calhanoglu added.
“And then we will have to know how to suffer too.”
