Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi admits that the Nerazzurri needed to be more switched-on when they allowed Genoa to equalize.
Speaking to InterTV after yesterday’s 1-1 Serie A draw, via FCInterNews, the coach lamented the lapse that saw his team concede not long after they had taken the lead.
As had been the case when they had dropped points against the likes of Bologna and Sassuolo earlier this season, Inter actually went ahead in the first half of this evening’s match in Liguria.
It was striker Marko Arnautovic who broke the deadlock. The Austrian scored his first ever Serie A goal in an Inter shirt.
But it was just ten minutes later that Inter conceded the equalizer.
Genoa defender Radu Dragusin headed home from a corner to send the two teams in at halftime level.
Then in the second half, neither team were able to find a winner. The Nerazzurri and the Grifone shared the points in the end.
Inzaghi Rues Lapse That Allowed Genoa To Equalize Vs Inter
After the match, Inzaghi said that “Clearly we knew that we were coming up against a team in great form who aren’t easy to play.”
“On their equalizer, we had to mark more carefully and defender as a team,” he continued.
“That’s where we had to be better.”
The Inter coach noted that “We hadn’t conceded a goal from a corner yet this season.
“We had to pay more attention,” he added.
“We closed our 2023 tonight,” Inzaghi said. “We wanted a win and we didn’t succeed.”
“I have nothing to blame the guys for though,” the coach continued. “Because they gave everything on the pitch.”
Inzaghi also noted that “Even the guys who weren’t available travelled with us.”
“We have to keep that going, the group is sacred.”
“And then we have to start 2024 with a win in front of our fans,” the Nerazzurri coach made clear. “There will be a lot of difficult battles ahead.”
