Striker Marcus Thuram has received some criticism for his criticism in yesterday evening’s Serie A draw away to Genoa.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, gave the Frenchman a score of just 5/10 for his performance in the player ratings for the match.

So far this season, Thuram has been a player Inter have turned to when they need to unlock a match.

The Frenchman’s dribbling ability and turn of pace mean that he can turn a relatively innocuous situation into a dangerous one in a flash.

Moreover, Thuram has shown no lack of end product.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach striker has hit the ground running in terms of his tactical understanding, timing of runs into the penalty area, and the composure of his finishes.

But none of that was really on show against Genoa yesterday evening.

Thuram started in attack along with Marko Arnautovic yesterday evening.

The pair formed the striker tandem in the absence of Inter captain Lautaro Martinez, Thuram’s usual partner in crime.

And perhaps the Argentine’s absence disturbed the usual balance a little too much for Thuram.

For the second Serie A match in a row, Thuram has failed to really impact the game.

This was not just in terms of a lack of goals and assists.

The 26-year-old also didn’t really threaten the Genoa backline with his dribbling.

Thuram looked downright anonymous at time, as the Rossoblu defenders were able to marshall him without too much trouble.

And even more problematic was the Frenchman’s first touch.

Thuram did have a couple opportunities to receive the ball near the touchline.

But the striker struggled to sort his feet out or control the ball.

Watching the ball go straight out of play from a rough first touch was emblematic of the kind of evening Thuram had had.
