Legendary former Inter Milan President Massimo Moratti believes the Nerazzurri’s draw against Genoa was partly the result of tiredness.

Moratti spoke to Italian broadcaster Radio Radio, via FCInterNews. He also praised the likes of current Inter coach Simone Inzaghi and captain Lautaro Martinez.

Inter’s title charge experienced a bit of a struggle in Liguria on Friday.

The Nerazzurri avoided defeat, but couldn’t manage to take all three points against an impressive Genoa side.

The Rossoblu certainly looked to be the team with more energy of the two. This particularly showed itself as the match wore on.

Inter were never really able to assert themselves due to the intense physical pressing style of their opposition.

This perhaps should not come as much of a surprise given how many matches Inter have already played this season.

Moratti: Genoa Draw The Result Of Tiredness

Moratti gave his thoughts on Inter’s season as a whole.

“Inter seem to be in good form,” he said.

“Even if there was the last match, which was also the result of mental tiredness given how many difficult matches they played before it.”

Moratti suggested that “In the league they still seem to be the strongest team.”

“Even if the best thing about this season is that it seems like there’s finally real competition. Not one team that leaves the rest behind.”

Moratti also gave his thoughts on current Nerazzurri captain Martinez.

“Lautaro Martinez is a special player,” the former President said.

“He’s improved a lot since he first came to Italy.”

“At the moment he’s essential,” Moratti argued. “But the team plays well even without him.”

“In Genoa the attack was a bit blunt. Thuram wasn’t in form. But Inter still looked very organized to me.”

And of Inter’s current coach, Moratti said that “He’s always improving. He’s going at a great rate.”

“Two years ago he started with some naivety,” the former President argued.

“But he always reacted in the right way. And now he’s really starting to have the team playing great football all the time.”
