Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu reveals rejecting lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia to remain with the Serie A giants.

The 29-year-old has been a pillar in Simone Inzaghi’s starting formation since making the crosstown switch from AC Milan in 2021.

The Turkiye international has swiftly established himself as a favorite among the Nerazzurri faithful.

Last summer, a host of top stars opted to succumb to the riches of the Saudi Pro League. The likes of Karim Benzema, Neymar, and Marcelo Brozovic all joined Cristiano Ronaldo in the Gulf nation.

However, Calhanoglu confirms that he decided to reject proposals from Saudi Arabia due to his love for Inter.

“I rejected the Saudi offer. I decided not to leave because I love Inter,” said the former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder in his interview with Sport Mediaset via FcInterNews.

“I thank Ausilio because he knew what I truly wanted. When those offers arrived, I asked the club to decide my fate.”

On another note, Calhanoglu insists that he didn’t leave AC Milan for money. Even though his decision saw him missing out on the Scudetto title in 2022, he believes he will be rewarded in the long run.

“Everyone thinks I left for financial reasons but money isn’t always everything. The most important thing for me is to feel important, and this is how I feel here.

“I wish the Rossoneri fans well. But with patience, I’ll prove I made the right call.”

The Turkish midfielder also looked back on his debut with the Nerazzurri and revealed his ambitions at the club.

“I was nervous about how the stadium would react but also sure that the fans would embrace me because I have faith in my qualities.

“When the fans give you so much, you have to give something in return.

“I want to win something important at Inter. Between Scudetto and another Champions League final, I’ll choose the former.

“Juventus say they’re aiming for fourth place? I don’t listen to what they say and in any case, I don’t look at the opponents, I only think about us.”

Calhanoglu also confirmed his great rapport with his manager Simone Inzaghi.

“I like the way Simone talks to us. He always wants to win and gets angry when we put our guard down in training.

“He has desire and malice. Beyond the sporting side, he also has a big heart. We can talk about anything with him. We arrived together at Inter and together we are evolving.”
