Former Juventus and AC Milan coach Fabio Capello warns Inter Milan against complacency due to excessive flattery.
The Nerazzurri are currently on top of the Serie A table, two points ahead of their main rivals Juventus.
Nevertheless, most fans and pundits consider Simone Inzaghi’s men as the favorites to clinch the Scudetto title thanks to their superior quality and depth.
Many observers have publicly backed Inter to win the league while praising their displays.
However, Capello feels that these lavishing comments could be counter-productive.
The legendary manager argues that the Nerazzurri risk losing sight and becoming complacent if they allow the hype to creep into their minds.
“Both Inter and Juve are well-equipped for the title challenge,” said the former England boss in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInter1908.
“Inter could lose some of the grit and determination they showcased thus far due to the praise we give them, starting from myself.
Fabio Capello Believes The Praise Could End Up Hurting Inter Milan
“In these situations, you risk falling asleep a little. It’s more difficult to envision this scenario at Juve. Allegri wouldn’t allow it.
“However, I thought that the management would bolster his squad in January with some substantial investments. But instead, they are focusing on their internal talent.”
Inter dropped two points last weekend as they settled for a 1-1 draw in Genoa. This allowed the Bianconeri to close the gap with a win over As Roma.
Hence, the Nerazzurri will be looking to protect their lead by returning to winning ways when they host Hellas Verona tomorrow.
