Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram feels that three points against Hellas Verona are a must given the proximity of Juventus in the Serie A title race.

The Frenchman spoke to InterTV ahead of this afternoon’s match against the Gialloblu, via FCInterNews.

Inter are back in action this afternoon, hoping to bounce back from a disappointing draw away to Genoa last weekend.

By dropping points in Liguria, the Nerazzurri allowed their main title rivals Juventus to gain some ground.

The Bianconeri beat Roma later in the weekend. Those two results closed the gap at the top to just two points.

Inter still retain top spot. But only by the slenderest of margins.

Therefore, this afternoon’s match against Verona is an opportunity to keep that placement. And to put some pressure on Juventus ahead of their own match against Salernitana tomorrow.

Verona are relegation-battlers, and have had to deal with losing some important players already this month.

As such, this might not be the hardest match for Inter on paper.

But at the same time, the Nerazzurri will not be underestimating the Gialloblu. Marco Baroni’s team will have all the motivation in the world to try and get a shock result at the San Siro.

And if Verona can manage that, it would not just be a blow for Inter. It would also prove to be a huge boost for Juventus.

Marcus Thuram: Need To Beat Verona With Juventus Just Behind

“It’s very important for us to win this big match at home,” Thuram said ahead of this afternoon’s match.

“Juventus are right on our heels,” he continued.

“So we have to take three points here.”

Anticipating this afternoon’s match, Thuram predicted that “It will be a tough match.”

“We’re facing a Serie A team as in all our matches. So we’ll have to play a great match.”

Thuram also remarked that “I try to help the team with goals, assists, being involved in play.”

“It doesn’t always come off, but even then I try to help the team,” the Frenchman added.
