Midfielder Davide Frattesi has become emblematic of how squad depth is making the difference for Inter Milan in Serie A.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Frattesi had perhaps his biggest impact yet in an Inter shirt over the weekend.
The Italian international came off the bench and scored the Nerazzurri’s winner in a 2-1 Serie A win over Hellas Verona which was full of drama and controversy.
It was no secret that Frattesi is a goal threat when Inter signed him.
The Italian international had been scoring regularly for Sassuolo, as well as for the national team.
And Frattesi has specifically shown his ability to do so as a substitute this season.
Davide Frattesi Epitomizes Inter Quality From The Bench
Frattesi is not yet a regular starter for Inter in Serie A.
The Italian, in fact, has only made one start for the Nerazzurri in the league.
The trio of Nicolo Barella, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Hakan Calhanoglu has not made it easy for Frattesi to get into the team.
And those three have typically put in performances sufficient to win Inter matches.
But they did not do so on Saturday. Verona were extremely competitive in the midfield battle, and looked to be close to securing a hard-fought point in unlikely circumstances.
But Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was able to turn to Frattesi as an option.
And the 24-year-old rewarded his coach by giving the team a different dimension. His instincts in and around the penalty area proved just how valuable they can be.
It is contributions like these that Inter will need to get over the finish line this season.
Even though the first-choice starters are the bedrock of the team, players like Frattesi can be the extra boost that the team need.
