Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta feels that being winter champions doesn’t guarantee the Nerazzurri anything in the Serie A title race.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster GR1 Radio, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri executive also outlined his club’s approach to recent refereeing controversy.

Inter’s 2-1 win over Hellas Verona over the weekend confirmed that the Nerazzurri are top of the table at the halfway point of the Serie A season.

This means that the Nerazzurri have the title of “winter champions.”

Naturally, this is no guarantee in the actual Serie A title race. Particularly given that Juventus are following so close behind Inter.

On Sunday the Bianconeri secured a victory of their own, away to Salernitana.

This means that the gap between the two teams at the top of the table remains two points.

Marotta: Inter Being “Winter Champions” No Guarantee In Serie A Title Race

Inter CEO Marotta said that “We have to stay on this great path that we’re on.”

He described the Nerazzurri’s positive trajectory as “Nothing more than the fruits of a great culture of work, a powerful sense of belonging, the support of magnificent fans and a solid club.”

“I believe that these are all components that they help us win,” the CEO continued. “And we’ll try to make the most of them.”

And Marotta called the recent spate of controversies around refereeing “Normal.”

“At the moment we’re a bit like the fox,” he said of the Nerazzurri’s situation.

“And the fox has to be smart,” he continued. “Capable of dodging the bullets from the hunters. That’s our role now.”

Marotta also said that “Being winter champions is like a Pyrrhic victory. It doesn’t mean that we’ve won the Scudetto already.”

“But we’re here today to manage even the controversies and heated moments without anger.”

“I’ve been in football all my life,” he noted. “And these kinds of behaviour have always existed.”

Marotta then stressed that “Maturity, conscience, and competence must give us strength to manage this situation in the best way possible.”
