Could Lautaro Martinez move to Chelsea this January? The Interisti will likely not take kindly to the possibility, or even the thought, of such a deal taking place.

With Martinez in sublime form for the Nerazzurri this season, losing their club captain midway through the season could have negative ramifications at the San Siro. Money talks, however, and the English Premier League big spenders Chelsea can talk a lot.

Rumours are that Chelsea are preparing a bid of  £80-100 million to prize the Argentinian striker away from Serie A during the current transfer window. Inter would be hard-pressed to accept due to the financial climate at the club.

It’s no secret that Chelsea’s manager, Martinez’s fellow Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, has been a fan of the striker for a while.

Reports linking the two surfaced before the ex-Tottenham and PSG manager signed at Stamford Bridge. Pochettino favours pressing forwards, of which Martinez is arguably one of the best in the business. A move to London would make sense.

The chances of Chelsea signing their long-time first-choice attacking target, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, during January are becoming increasingly remote.

The Nigerian marksman has just signed a new contract with Gli Azzurri and is away at AFCON with his country, potentially for the whole transfer window.

Therefore, with the mega-rich Blues short of goals and needing to re-establish themselves among the EPL elite, the focus has turned to Lautaro Martinez, with good reason.

Lautaro Martinez – Inter Milan Captain, Scorer & Creator

Martinez has led Inter from the front in 2023/24. Despite missing two games in December with an abductor injury, he netted a goal against Verona on his return – his 16th in 17 Serie A matches this season.

When you add the Inter Milan skipper’s four top-tier assists, Martinez has 20 goal contributions over the campaign. He is a primary reason why the club leads Serie A this season.

Although a Martinez-inspired Inter is only two points clear of Juventus at the top of Serie A, the best crypto betting sites make the club the clear favourite in the race for the Scudetto. With odds of ⅓ on offer, bookmakers expect the Nerazzurri to extend its lead in the current months.

Lautaro Martinez (2/13) is also the clear favourite to end as the Serie A top scorer, ahead of Domenico Berardi (10/1) and Romelo Lukaku (16/1). Lukaku’s name is an interesting one, as the ex-Inter striker is on loan at Roma from Chelsea.

Since signing with Inter Milan in the 2018/19 season, Martinez has been integral to the club’s success. A Scudetto winner in 2020/21, the Argentine also lists two Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups among his honours.

His continuous form in Serie A has also seen him included in the Argentinian Copa América-winning squad in 2020/21 and the World Cup-winning squad in 2022.

With a new Inter contract reportedly lined up, would Lautaro Martinez want to leave this success behind?
