Inter Milan sent a clear message to Juventus with their emphatic 5-1 demolition of Monza in Serie A yesterday.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter have now been feeling Juventus breathing down their necks at the top of the Serie A table for several weeks.
The Bianconeri have not managed to overtake the Nerazzurri in top spot yet.
But Inter’s recent stumble in Genoa underlined just how tight the margins are at this stage. Two points separated Inter and Juventus going into yesterday’s match.
Now, the gap is five points, at least for the time being.
The Bianconeri will have the chance to respond on Tuesday. They host Sassuolo in their own Serie A fixture for the round.
But Max Allegri’s team will have the pressure on them to keep the pace that Inter set against Monza yesterday.
Inter Sent Clear Message To Juventus With Monza Thrashing
Inter had gotten three points against Hellas Verona at the San Siro last weekend.
That result was vital for the Nerazzurri after their rather turgid draw away to Genoa in December.
But in truth, regardless of the result, the win over the Gialloblu did not feel like a real response to the setback in Liguria.
On the contrary. Inter’s performance last weekend was not a convincing one.
The Nerazzurri needed a late goal, a heaping of refereeing controversy, and a last-minute penalty miss by Verona in order to take the three points.
That was the kind of performance that could signify the beginning of a winter crisis for Inter. Certainly a welcome thought from a Juventus perspective.
But against Monza yesterday, Inter actually produced a real response.
The Bianconeri will be left to wonder how they can keep up with a team playing at the level the Nerazzurri did yesterday.
