Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez showed his class with one gesture in yesterday evening’s Serie A win over Monza.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInter1908, highlight the Argentine’s consoling gesture towards Brianzoli keeper Alessandro Sorrentino.

21-year-old goalkeeper Sorrentino was in the Monza starting eleven yesterday evening.

The backup keeper was called into action due to an injury to the first-choice keeper Michele Di Gregorio.

And it was not an easy match for Sorrentino to go through.

Up against league leaders Inter, the Brianzoli were always likely to face a barrage of chances.

And so it proved yesterday. Inter put five goals past Monza, two of which came from the penalty spot.

Lautaro Martinez The Classy Captain With Gesture For Monza Keeper

The heavy defeat that Monza was not the fault of Sorrentino.

The young keeper couldn’t have done much better than he did on any of Inter’s goals. But it was Sorrentino who was the one who had to pick the ball out of his own net five times.

And Martinez seemed to recognize that.

The 26-year-old was the player who stepped up to take the penalty for Inter’s fifth goal. With Hakan Calhanoglu off the pitch, he had the chance to score from the spot.

The Inter captain duly dispatched his effort to round out the win late on.

Sorrentino naturally appeared crestfallen as he had just conceded five goals in what is a rare start for the 21-year-old.

So Martinez went over to console the Monza goalkeeper.

The Nerazzurri captain, rather than simply gloating or celebrating, gave a few words of encouragement.

Martinez did not want to see his fellow professional suffer emotionally in a tough moment.

So he took time to embrace Sorrentino and tell the young goalkeeper to keep his head up.
