Simone Inzaghi has earned plaudits for guiding Inter Milan out of some pressure to produce a calm, composed display against Monza.

The Nerazzurri coach was commended in the player ratings for the match across Italian media, as L’Interista highlight.

Inter had a tough couple of weeks heading into yesterday’s Serie A match against Monza.

The Nerazzurri had drawn away in Genoa to end 2023. That was a potential sign that the team had lost a bit of energy and confidence.

And then Inter’s Serie A win over Hellas Verona to kick off January was only a further sign of problems.

The Nerazzurri were far from their most convincing in that performance against the Gialloblu.

Three points arrived. But only because of a late Davide Frattesi, and then a missed Verona penalty in stoppage time.

The fact that Frattesi’s goal came amid significant refereeing controversy was another issue.

Simone Inzaghi Praised For Guiding Inter Out Of Pressure Vs Monza

The incessant refereeing controversy in the week after Inter’s match against Monza certainly threatened to become a major distraction.

The backdrop of a tight title race against Juventus meant that the team were suddenly fighting off all sorts of accusations and innuendo off the pitch due to the Verona match.

But there was no sign whatsoever that any of that had gotten to Inter on the pitch against Monza.

The Nerazzurri looked like a team who had spent the week working calmly in training.

Inter stuck to their gameplan. And they played an organized, focused match.

That comes down to the coach.

Inzaghi has shown ever since he took over as Inter coach that he can shape the team in his image.

And the fact that the 47-year-old did so even after all the of-pitch distractions and negative atmosphere of the past couple weeks was all the more impressive.
