Former AC Milan midfielder Walter Novellino feels that Inter Milan are the clear favourites to win the Serie A title.
The ex-midfielder and coach spoke to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, giving his predictions regarding the Italian top flight’s ongoing title race between the Nerazzurri and Juventus.
Inter gave the kind of response they needed to in terms of the Serie A title race on Saturday.
The Nerazzurri defeated Monza by an emphatic 5-1 scoreline. This was enough to see Simone Inzaghi’s team temporarily go top of the Serie A table.
That may have been an impressive performance.
But it will only be this evening that Juventus are able to respond. The Bianconeri can cut the deficit to just two points once again if they are to beat Sassuolo.
This underlines the fact that Inter must keep this level up for the rest of the campaign in all likelihood.
So far Juventus have not allowed the Nerazzurri any real breathing room.
And it doesn’t look overly likely that the Bianconeri will do so any time soon.
So there will be a question of the squad depth and fitness of the two teams over the coming months.
And moreover, the fact that Juventus do not have to worry about any European matches can also be an additional advantage for Max Allegri’s team in the title race that is starting to unfold.
Novellino: Inter Clear Favourites To Prevail In Serie A Title Race
“Inter against Monza was something spectacular,” Novellino said.
“But for me, we have to watch out for Juventus as well,” he continued. “They have a great coach,” he said of the Bianconeri.
And Novellino also gave his thoughts on the future of one-time Inter target Lazar Samardzic.
He called the Serb “An interesting player.”
“He will eventually end up at Juventus,” he predicted of Samardzic.
“When there’s a player like him it’s natural that the Bianconeri would be ready to move in,” Novellino said.
“But looking at Napoli, I think he would be of more use to them.”
