Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan feels that the team’s focus is entirely on the upcoming Supercoppa Italiana.
The 34-year-old also had words of praise for his new teammate Tajon Buchanan in a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s semifinal against Lazio, as reported by FCInterNews.
Tomorrow, Inter kick off their Supercoppa Italiana.
It’s a competition that the Nerazzurri have won in each of the past two seasons. They beat Juventus in January of 2022, and then AC Milan last time around.
But the format for the Supercoppa has changed.
This time around there are four teams vying for it, with two semifinals and then a final.
Inter represent the Coppa Italia winners from last season, whilst Fiorentina were finalists.
Meanwhile, Napoli vie for the Supercoppa as last season’s Serie A champions. And Lazio – Inter’s opponents tomorrow – come into the competition as league runners-up.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan: All Focus On Supercoppa Italiana
Inter are also in a heated Serie A title race against Juventus. And they will have to make up their league match against Atalanta because of their Supercoppa commitments.
Mkhitaryan noted that “It’s not the first time that’s happen.”
“But the most important thing is to win tomorrow and reach the final.”
“We want to keep the positive atmosphere up as we prepare for our other commitments,” the midfielder said.
“Our focus is not on the fact that we’re not playing in the league,” he added.
The Armenian former Arsenal and Roma midfielder stressed that “First we’ll think about winning the trophy, then the league matches. First the Supercoppa then focus on the league.”
And Mkhitaryan also gave his thoughts on newly-arrived Inter wingback Buchanan.
“He’s a great guy,” the 34-year-old said. “He’s a bit shy.”
“He has to learn a new culture, a new style of play, a new language,” he noted.
“And we have to help him understand what he has to do.”
“He has a lot of quality, you can see that in training,” Mkhitaryan added.
