Inter looked even stronger against Lazio in the Supercoppa Italiana yesterday than they had when they beat the Biancocelesti in Serie A last month.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter were not exactly facing unfamiliar opposition when they came up against Lazio yesterday.
The two teams have had plenty of memorable league meetings in the past few seasons.
The Biancocelesti have beaten Inter on two occasions since Simone Inzaghi took over. There’s a certain sense that they know how to play against their old coach.
And that was on display against Inter in December when the two sides met at the Stadio Olimpico, in spite of the fact that Inter had won that match.
The Nerazzurri did run out 2-0 winners that evening. But it was far from an easy match for Inzaghi and his players.
Inter Look More Convincing Vs Lazio In Supercoppa Italiana Than In Serie A
Lazio had went toe-to-toe with Inter for much of the first half of their Serie A meeting.
The team from the Italian capital looked confident, and played at their preferred tempo, covering the pitch well.
The result was more a reflection of Inter being ruthless at punishing Lazio errors and the Biancocelesti being unable to do the same than of one side really dominating the other.
But yesterday was a much different story.
Inter took 23 shorts, and were more than good value for their three goals.
Meanwhile, Lazio took just five shots. Just one of them was even on target.
There was a clear gulf in class as Inter’s high-tempo passing game overwhelmed the Biancocelesti virtually from the first minute.
If the recent league meeting had suggested that Inter would be in for a tough match in Riyadh, the pitch ended up telling a much different story.
