Marcus Thuram is reaping the benefits of his decision to join Inter Milan last summer, as he becomes the “complete number nine.”

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who highlight the Frenchman’s display against Lazio in the Supercoppa Italiana.

Normally when a player moves to a new club, there are a number of factors that determine the transfer.

Clubs must typically agree a deal. There has to be a willingness by one club to sell, and then the two clubs involved must come to an agreement on a fee.

But because Thuram left Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of his contract, the 26-year-old didn’t need the Bundesliga side to approve of any transfer.

Thuram had the luxury of making a choice about his future.

Marcus Thuram Threives As “Complete Number Nine” After Choosing Inter

There was no shortage of interest in Thuram during the summer.

The likes of Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan were among the strongest suitors of the Frenchman. Teams like Bayern Munich and Manchester United had also been in the race.

But Thuram turned all of these down to join Inter.

The 26-year-old has spoken about why he decided on the Nerazzurri.

Thuram believed that Inter would be the right team for him to take a step forward stylistically.

The World Cup finalist believed that he would be at his best playing as an out-and-out striker. And that was exactly what Inter saw him as as well.

Therefore, Thuram prioritized the Nerazzurri where he could play as a number nine in a two-man strike partnership leading the line in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system.

And that role has really unlocked Thuram’s best qualities.

It looks to be a perfect example of a player perfectly understanding how to make a decision about his future. And now, Thuram is reaping the rewards.
