Midfielder Davide Frattesi could start for Inter Milan in next weekend’s Serie A match away to Fiorentina.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Tomorrow evening it is all but certain that Nicolo Barella will start against Napoli.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will go with his strongest possible midfield from the start, comprising Barella along with Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

That will mean that there is once again no place for Frattesi in the starting eleven.

However, the 24-year-old former Sassuolo midfielder could certainly have a role to play from the bench. That has often been the case for Frattesi this season.

Despite the fact that the Italian international has only started a handful of matches, he has managed four goals from the bench as he has become an important impact substitute for Inter.

Among these were a recent stoppage time winner against Hellas Verona. As well as a late goal to round off Friday’s Supercoppa semifinal win over Lazio.

Davide Frattesi Could Start For Inter Vs Fiorentina

Barella is one booking away from suspension at the moment.

Therefore, if the former Cagliari midfielder were to picking up a yellow card tomorrow against Napoli, then he would be unavailable to play against Fiorentina.

In that event, there would be little doubt that Frattesi would start.

But even if Barella is available against La Viola, Frattesi could start anyway.

That is because Inzaghi will want Barella available against Juventus at the start of next month.

That match against the Bianconeri could prove to be decisive in the Serie A title race. Therefore, having a player as important as the 26-year-old available will certainly be key.

And so Inzaghi may decide not to risk Barella picking up a yellow against Fiorentina.

In that case, Frattesi would almost certainly get his chance to play from the start.
