Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez feels that his coach Simone Inzaghi has played a big role in his growth over the last few years.

The 26-year-old spoke to Radio TV Serie A, via FCInterNews, ahead of this evening’s Supercoppa Italiana final against Napoli.

Martinez had already reached a high level at Inter before Inzaghi took over as coach.

The Argentine had been a regular starter for two years under Antonio Conte.

He had hit double figures in each of those two seasons. That included the 2020-21 campaign, when Martinez had been an important player in Inter winning the Serie A title.

But in each season since then, Martinez has taken another step forward.

This time around, the 26-year-old has become Inter’s captain. He inherited the armband from Samir Handanovic last summer.

And this has coincided with yet another jump forward from Martinez.

The Nerazzurri captain is already on twenty goals in all competitions for the season to date – and it is not even February yet.

Lautaro Martinez Hails Importance Of Simone Inzaghi To His Growth At Inter

Of how Inzaghi has impacted him, Martinez said that “He’s been very important for me, because he gives everyone confidence.”

“It’s always good to work with a smile,” the Argentine continued. “And lots of energy.”

“Then the results come.”

“I want to reach as high a level as possible,” Martinez said.

“Mentally and physically I’m doing well, I’m happy with the things that I’m doing.”

And the Inter captain also talked about the Supercoppa Italiana final against Napoli.

“It’s certainly important for us to have reached another final,” he said.

“Because that means that we’re continuing to grow.”

“If we’re here it is because we’re doing great work. And now we have to keep going on this path.”

“We’ll do our best to lift the trophy, which is our objective,” Martinez added.

Asked if he thinks that Inter can continue to improve after their excellent display against Lazio on Friday, Martinez replied “Yes, definitely. In terms of the consistency of our play.”

“Against Lazio we played a great match facing a top-class opponent,” the Inter captain said.

“Now we face Napoli, one of the strongest teams in Italy, who won the Scudetto last season.”

Martinez made clear that “We’ll have to play a match with great focus and intensity. We have to be well-prepared.”
