Nerazzurri defender Matteo Darmian feels that Inter Milan are not favourites against Napoli, but want to Supercoppa Italiana.
The 34-year-old spoke to InterTV ahead of this evening’s final, via FCInterNews.
Inter and have the chance to win the Supercoppa for the third season in a row this evening.
The Nerazzurri will face Napoli in the final in just a few minutes.
Inter, last season’s Coppa Italia winners, beat Lazio at the semifinal stage. Meanwhile, reigning Serie A champions Napoli beat Fiorentina.
Inter are quite a bit higher up in the table than the Partenopei at the moment.
However, both teams have plenty of quality. And it is a one-off match where Napoli will see the opportunity to prove that they have not dropped off as much as it may seem compared to last campaign.
Matteo Darmian: No Favourites In A Final, But Inter Want The Supercoppa
Responding to the statement of Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo that there are no favourites in a final like this, Darmian said that “That’s right.”
“A final is a match in itself,” he continued.
“In order to win it we have to prove that we’re the better team. We have to play the way that we did against Lazio.”
“We need to have the right kind of determination, and stay switched on to bring this trophy home.”
As far as Inter’s approach against the Partenopei, Darmian said that “We know the quality of Napoli.”
“They have great individual players,” he went on.
“Kvaratskhelia is one. But Napoli is not just him, they have great players who can change the game at any moment.”
Darmian said that “We’ll have to be careful and play as a team.”
The Nerazzurri defender admitted that “Last season we had a lot of ups and downs.”
“But we don’t want to make the same mistakes this time.”
“We’ve shown that over the first half of the season. And we want to do so again now.”
