Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez feels that the team’s win over Napoli was well-deserved even if it came with some suffering.

The Nerazzurri match-winner spoke to InterTV after the match, via FCInterNews.

Inter have now won the Supercoppa three seasons in a row.

Having beaten AC Milan in the final last season, and Juventus the season before, the Nerazzurri beat reigning Italian champions Napoli in the final this evening.

The Nerazzurri needed to wait until the final minutes of the match. That had also been the case in their win against the Bianconeri two years ago.

It was Inter captain Martinez who scored the decisive goal.

The Argentine latched onto an Alexis Sanchez cross that none of the Napoli defenders managed to clear.

This was certainly disappointing for the Partenopei, who had put in an all-hands-on-deck defensive effort and looked close to forcing penalties after going down to ten men.

But in the end, Inter found a way through and lifted the trophies.

Lautaro Martinez: Had To Suffer Vs Napoli, But Win Well-Deserved

“There was a lot of the time when we were up a man,” said Inter captain Martinez. “But we still had to suffer.”

“But we never “lost our composure, and we managed to bring it home.”

Martinez said that “For us this was the first objective of the season.”

“This season we already played at an extremely high level in the semifinal,” he continued.

“Then we had to face Napoli, who are a top-class opponent.”

“Finals are always played differently,” the Argentine said. “We understood that. And we believed in it until the end and brought this trophy home for the third time.”

And, asked what word he would use to define his first ever trophy as Inter captain, Martinez replied “The word is definitely sacrifice.”

“Because we have to do a lot of it every day to raise the level.”

“We’re doing it,” Martinez went on. “With the coaching staff, the coach.”
