Inter Milan are hoping that a strong performance at EURO 2024 can raise the price tag for wingback Denzel Dumfries ahead of a probable summer sale.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

It is not yet certain that Inter will sell Dumfries during the upcoming summer transfer window.

But that is the direction in which things are trending.

The key reason why is that, at the moment, there is still a long way to go in contract between the Nerazzurri and the Dutchman and his representatives.

Inter will not break the bank to extend Dumfries’s contract. And the player and his representatives would likely expect a larger pay raise than the club would offer.

Moreover, offering a big increase in wages would be made more difficult by the Italian government scrapping the Growth Decree in football.

And Dumfries is out of contract with the Nerazzurri at the end of June 2025.

Therefore, Inter will be keen to sell Dumfries if they cannot extend his deal. They are certainly not going to want to have the same thing happen with the former PSV wingback as did with Milan Skriniar.

Inter Hoping EURO 2024 Performances Raise Price Tag For Denzel Dumfries

One important factor could be the upcoming Euros.

Dumfries has proven to be an eye-catching player for the Dutch national team in the past couple major tournaments.

In 2021, the Dutchman raised his profile with some outstanding displays even as his national team exited the tournament early to Czechia.

That was in fact the summer that Inter signed Dumfries.

And then at the World Cup in Qatar last winter, the Inter wingback once again shone.

It was Dumfries’s performance against the US in the round of sixteen that particularly stood out.

That may have even raised the potential transfer fee involved in Dumfries leaving.

And Inter are looking at the upcoming Euros in the hopes that something similar happens.
