Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij feels that it will be vital as ever to take three points away from this evening’s Serie A match against Fiorentina.

The 31-year-old gave his thoughts to InterTV, via FCInterNews, ahead of the match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Last time that Inter faced off against Fiorentina in Serie A, they took an emphatic 4-0 win from the San Siro.

However, that has not been the pattern in recent meetings between these two teams.

La Viola have taken points off of Inter in three of the last five league meetings.

And the two sides also played out a very even match in the Coppa Italia final last season.

Inter will be aiming to take advantage of Juventus’s surprise draw at home to Empoli yesterday evening.

However, doing so won’t be easy against an in-form Fiorentina side at the Franchi.

For his part, Inter defender feels that ultimately the points will be as important as ever.

Stefan De Vrij: Three Points “Fundamentally Important” Vs Fiorentina

De Vrij said that the Nerazzurri will “Have to be switched-on right from the start,” in this evening’s match.

“Not just us in defense,” he went on.

“But the whole team, as always.”

“We need to do very well in the defensive phase this evening,” de Vrij said.

“But also, in attack we have to do what we always do,” the Dutchman continued. “Try to score goals and win the match.”

“Three points are always three points,” de Vrij said.

“But we know how important this match is. It will be fundamentally important for us to stay on course.”

And the former Lazio defender also gave his thoughts on the kind of season it has been for him individually so far.

“I think that kind of balance is something that you have to take at the end of the season,” he said.

“For now, it’s a long season. I want to continue to grow and to do well.”
