The present and future of the Turkish national team could be facing off when Hakan Calhanoglu and Kenan Yildiz meet for Inter Milan and Juventus respectively.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, there is likely no player more important for the Turkish national team than Inter midfielder Calhanoglu.

The 29-year-old former AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, and Hamburg man is Turkey’s captain.

Calhanoglu has now been a senior international for over a decade. He has made 82 appearances for his national team.

From a promising young talent to the player at the heart of midfield for Turkey, Calhanoglu has grown year on year.

And the Turk is just as important for Inter.

Calhanoglu joined the Nerazzurri from Milan in the summer of 2021.

And in the two and a half years since that transfer, the 29-year-old has established himself as the Nerazzurri’s creative fulcrum.

There is certainly no doubt that Calhanoglu will start against Juventus on Sunday. The 29-year-old is just about the first name on the teamsheet.

And Bianconeri coach Max Allegri will have preventing Calhanoglu from dictating play close to the top of his tactical agenda.

At the other end of the experience spectrum is Juventus forward Yildiz.

The teenager, who joined the Bianconeri’s “Next Gen” team from Bayern Munich in 2022, has exploded into the first team this campaign.

Despite being only eighteen years of age, Yildiz has made a decisive impact in several matches for Juventus this season.

And this has meant that the Bianconeri player has also become a full international for Turkey.

Yildiz got his first cap for the national side last year.

The 18-year-old has still only made three appearances for Turkey. A far cry from Calhanoglu’s already extensive experience for his country.

But time is certainly on Yildiz’s side to play many more times for his national team.

In the meantime, there is every chance that Yildiz will go head-to-head with his compatriot Calhanoglu on Sunday.

With Arkadiusz Milik suspended and Federico Chiesa just coming back from injury, the 18-year-old is the favourite to start in attack for the Bianconeri.
