Former Nerazzurri and Bianconeri midfielder Vladimir Jugovic is hoping Juventus get a result against Inter Milan to keep the Serie A title race alive.
The former Yugoslav international spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition.
Today, Inter and Juventus meet as the top two teams in the Serie A table.
The Derby d’Italia will have greater significance than ever given the potential title ramifications.
Inter are just one point ahead of Juventus. So there is a sense that this title race remains extremely tight.
However, on the other hand, the Nerazzurri have a game in hand on the Bianconeri.
Therefore, if Inter can take a result from their match against Atalanta at the end of this month, there would be an extra point or three added to their lead.
As such, a win against Juventus would really put the wind in Inter’s sails.
That would mean a four-point buffer, with the prospect of extending it even more.
But on the other hand, if the Bianconeri can even take a draw, then the pressure on Inter will remain massive. Particularly considering there are hardly any guarantees regarding the game in hand against Atalanta.
And then, if Juventus were to beat Inter, it would really tighten things up at the top of the table.
This would not mean that the Bianconeri would suddenly have a real buffer at the top.
But it would all but guarantee that the gap between the two would be just a point or two until at least the end of this month.
Vladimir Jugovic Hoping Juventus Can Get A Result Vs Inter
As far as who he is hoping wins this evening, Jugovic replied “I’m hoping for Juventus.”
“Because I hope that the Scudetto race will be exciting until May.”
“If Inter wins, however, Inzaghi’s team will have a sizable advantage. And then also the game in hand from their Supercoppa commitments.”
“I don’t think that Inter and Juventus will play for a draw at the start,” Jugovic predicted.
“However, in this case, a draw away from home would not be a bad result for the Bianconeri.”
The former midfielder said that “It would mean remaining just behind Inter right as the season heats up.”
Jugovic noted that “Lautaro and his teammates are just now going to have a Champions League round of sixteen tie, against another team of mind, Atletico Madrid.”
