Simone Inzaghi feels that Inter Milan’s form this season would be enough to see them with a bigger lead in the table in other Serie A seasons.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke in a press conference after his team beat Juventus in the Derby d’Italia yesterday evening, as reported by FCInterNews.

Inter got a big win yesterday, to understate the point.

The Nerazzurri beat Juventus for the first time in Serie A since April of 2022.

The Derby d’Italia is always a massive match, and important to win. But rarely moreso than in this edition.

Inter and Juventus had been separated by just one point at the start of the match.

Even with the Nerazzurri having a game in hand on their title rivals, it felt like a miniscule gap with no margin for error.

Now, not so much. With four points between them and the Bianconeri, Inter have a bit of breathing room.

Still, there is only a bit of that margin for error.

There are still just a couple results between the two teams at the summit of the Serie A table. And even AC Milan are not too far off in the distance.

That looks like a very different picture than last season, when Napoli had already looked like champions-elect at this stage of the campaign.

And considering that Inter are already on 57 points after just 21 matches, it is a testament to how much Juventus have done to push them at the top of the table.

Simone Inzaghi: In Other Serie A Seasons, Inter Could Be Further Ahead

Inter coach Inzaghi remarked that “This is one more step along our journey.”

“We have to congratulate an Inter team who have won eighteen matches out of 22,” he continued. “An incredible path to be on.”

“In other leagues and seasons, winning eighteen matches at this point would mean being ten points ahead,” the Inter coach observed.

“Now we look ahead on our path. It will be long and full of pitfalls.”

“But we’re confident,” Inzaghi said. “We’re working well.”

As far as the victory over Juventus, the coach said that “We wanted to play an aggressive match.”

He called the Derby d’Italia “A very important match.”

“The guys used their heads and hearts. Plus, I asked them to cover the whole pitch,”

“It remained an open match because we came up against a goalkeeper who made some incredible saves,” the Inter coach continued.

“But there was hardly a story to it,” he was confident.

Asked whether he thinks Hakan Calhanoglu is one of the best deep-lying playmakers in the world after the Turkish internationals display, Inzaghi replied “Yes, absolutely.”

“But I should congratulate everyone for their performances,” he went on.

“It wasn’t easy for Carlos and Dumfries to come in. And then, Arnautovic, Klaassen, and de Vrij also did well off the bench.”
