Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi is aiming to come back from injury against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the 24-year-old will miss Inter’s next two Serie A matches, but could be back for the Champions League round of sixteen.

At the moment, Frattesi is out with a thigh injury.

There is certainly no doubt that the former Sassuolo midfielder will miss out on Saturday’s trip to face Roma.

Frattesi has suffered a strain to a muscle, so there will be at least a week and change before he can return to the pitch.

Further medical tests will be necessary to forecast the timeline for his recovery.

But according to the Gazzetta, there is also next to no chance of seeing Frattesi in the squad for the following weekend’s Serie A match against Salernitana at the San Siro.

Ample time will be needed to make sure the injury fully heals. So it is not as though Frattesi will rush back to the pitch for a match taking place one week from Friday.

Davide Frattesi Aiming To Be Back For Atletico Madrid Clash

Naturally, missing Frattesi in the match against Salernitana will be a blow for Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.

That match is likely to be one in which the Nerazzurri coach rotates his squad somewhat.

There would have been a good chance of seeing Frattesi from the start. Key starting midfielders like Nicolo Barella and Henrikh Mkhitaryan could likely use a rest as the fixture list heats up.

But Inzaghi will have to make do without Frattesi for that match. In terms of rotation options, either from the start or the bench, there will be Davy Klassen and Stefano Sensi.

But Frattesi should be back for Inter’s next match.

That will be the Champions League round of sixteen first leg against Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
