A report in the Italian media sheds light on Inter Milan’s attacking partnership of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, while the memory of Romelu Lukaku fades away.

The Belgian will cross paths with his former employers once again this weekend as AS Roma host the Nerazzurri at the Stadio Olimpico.

Last summer, the 30-year-old was the protagonist of a dramatic transfer saga.

Inter were looking to maintain his services on a permanent basis, thus negotiating a deal with Chelsea.

However, it was later revealed that the striker had his sight on a transfer to Juventus.

This sparked an irreparable rift between the two parties. The Nerazzurri faithful already treated the Belgium international to a raucous welcome at San Siro earlier this season.

That fixture ended with a 1-0 win for the Beneamata. Ironically, Thuram, who replaced Lukaku at Inter, scored the solitary strike.

So as La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FcInterNews) tells it, the exploits of Thuram and Lautaro this season rendered Lukaku a distant memory at Inter.

The pink newspaper recalls the prosperous partnership between the Argentine and the Belgian.

At the time, Martinez served as a sidekick for Lukaku. While the latter was also generous towards his former teammate, he was the one who played closer to the opposition’s goal.

However, the dynamics between Lautaro and Thuram are quite different. Nowadays, the Argentine often finds himself inside the penalty box.

Moreover, the 26-year-old’s personality noticeably grew after winning the World Cup Cup in Qatar and then inheriting the captain’s armband in the summer.

The new and improved version of Lautaro has already scored a whopping 19 Serie A goals in 20 appearances this term.

This figure would have been hard to achieve without the presence of Thuram who helps in maximizing Martinez’s potential in front of goal.
