Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce are reportedly working on overtaking Inter Milan in the race for Mehdi Taremi.

The 31-year-old will become a free agent at the end of the season once his contract with Porto expires.

The Nerazzurri have been negotiating with the player’s entourage for quite some time now. Many sources believe that the Italian giants are on the cusp of finalizing an agreement with the striker.

With less than six months remaining on his contract, Taremi can now sign a pre-contract with a new club.

However, a report from Turkiye suggests that Inter could still end up missing out on the player’s signature.

According to A Spor via FcInterNews, Fenerbahce are trying to lure the experienced forward to Istanbul.

The source claims that the Turkish giants have now scheduled a meeting with Taremi’s entourage in the next few days.

As the report explains, Fenerbahce are searching the market for a new striker who can take the flame from Edin Dzeko.

The Bosnian veteran left Inter last summer to sign for the Istanbul-based club as a free agent.

While the 37-year-old’s contract is valid until 2025, the source claims he’ll leave at the end of the season, prompting the search for a replacement.

Fenerbahce Emerge As A Competitor For Inter Milan In The Race For Mehdi Taremi

Regardless of Dzeko’s situation at Fenerbahce, Inter will be looking to finalize their agreement with Taremi as soon as possible, putting all speculations to bed.

The Nerazzurri already tried to acquire the Iran international last summer but were repelled by Porto’s asking price.

This season, Taremi has scored six goals across all competitions, while also providing his teammates with four assists.
