Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi plans to play his strongest possible lineup against Roma, and then rotate next weekend against Salernitana.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who detail the Nerazzurri coach’s plans for the starting eleven.
The time is now arriving where Inzaghi will have to think about squad rotations.
Since the end of December, Inter have largely played just once per week.
Apart from the compressed period which saw the team face both Lazio and Napoli in the space of a few days in the Supercoppa Italiana, Inter have had the week off to rest and train.
But that will soon change. In a little over a week, the Nerazzurri will return to action in the Champions League.
The round of sixteen tie against Atletico Madrid will constitute a big drain on the team’s energy and focus.
So it is not as though Inzaghi can just keep playing the same starting eleven over and over.
Inter To Play Full-Strength XI Vs Roma – Then Rotate Vs Salernitana
According to the Gazzetta, however, Inzaghi is not going to be thinking about rotation just yet.
The newspaper reports that the Inter coach is planning to play the same lineup this evening at the Stadio Olimpico as he did against Juventus last weekend.
Unsurprisingly, Inzaghi went with what he saw as his strongest possible team against the Bianconeri last Sunday.
And that team rewarded the Nerazzurri coach with a win. It was a hugely significance in in the Derby d’Italia which saw Inter extend their lead at the top of the table.
And Roma won’t be a much easier opponent.
Inter will know the importance of taking three points off the Giallorossi to consolidate the momentum from last weekend.
Therefore, Inzaghi isn’t thinking about changes this evening.
On the other hand, Salernitana would certainly appear to be much easier opposition – at least on paper.
The Granata are rooted to the bottom of the table, having had a dismal season to date.
And Inter face Salernitana just a few days before the massive round of sixteen first leg against Atletico.
So that is the match in which Inzaghi will choose to rotate.,
