Alessandro Bastoni admits that Roma started off with more intensity, but feels Inter Milan got their in the end of their Serie A clash.

The Italian international spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, following the Nerazzurri’s 4-2 Serie A win at the Stadio Olimpico.

Inter will hardly have expected anything other than a fast start from Roma yesterday.

The Giallorossi have all the motivation in the world.

Having changed coaches from Jose Mourinho to Daniele De Rossi last month, there is a sense that the Roma squad are doing everything they can to respond to the recent slowdown in form and toxic atmosphere within the club.

And an intense, high-tempo performance on the pitch is certainly the perfect way to do that.

Especially if it comes against opposition like Inter, currently the outstanding team in Serie A.

The Giallorossi did throw players forward and push for an early goal at the Olimpico. But it was actually Inter who scored first once the match had settle down a bit.

But then, Roma responded with two goals of their own. They took a 2-1 lead in at halftime, and it was hardly an undeserved advantage.

Therefore, it was Inter who were then left having to respond.

But that was exactly what the Nerazzurri did.

Bastoni: Roma More Hungry In First Half, Inter Left Standing In The End

Inter scored three goals in the second half to win the match 4-2 in the end.

First, striker Marcus Thuram scored the equalizer. Then, the Frenchman almost got on the scoresheet, but instead it was Roma defender Angelino who turned into his own net under pressure from the Inter striker.

Lastly, defender Bastoni wrapped up the win with a stoppage time goal.

The well-struck effort was the Italian international’s first time getting on the scoresheet this season.

“Aside from the goal I scored, in the first half, we didn’t take to the pitch with the right mentality,” Bastoni said.

He continued that “At halftime we spoke to each other.”

“And then we returned to the pitch with the right attitude.”

Bastoni noted that “In the first half they had the greater intensity, the greater desire to win than us.”

“But in the end, what matters is who is left standing. And fortunately, we were able to win.”
