Even with a touchline ban forcing him to the stands, Simone Inzaghi got his halftime message across to Inter Milan against Roma.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report how the Nerazzurri coach relayed his motivational instructions to the team.

Inter coach Inzaghi was serving a one-match touchline ban yesterday at the Stadio Olimpico.

The reason for this was a yellow card that the 47-year-old had received in last weekend’s win over Juventus.

Inzaghi had talked himself into the book. And that was the fifth booking that he has received this season.

Therefore, the coach’s trusted assistant Massimiliano Farris took charge against Juventus yesterday.

Inzaghi could not communicate directly with his players in the normal manner.

At halftime of yesterday’s match, this looked to be a potential problem. Inter trailed 2-1, and had not been at their best tactically in the first half against a resurgent Roma team.

Inzaghi Gets Message To Inter Across Vs Roma Despite Touchline Ban

Inzaghi was watching his team’s performance from the stands at the Olimpico.

And during the first half, the coach was not altogether satisfied with what he was seeing.

The match was constantly getting stretched as Inter failed to dictate the tempo as usual.

And Roma were at times overrunning the Nerazzurri in midfield.

According to the Gazzetta, it was in the wide areas that Inzaghi started to identify problems. The 47-year-old had been excitedly exclaiming, “The wingbacks! The wingbacks!”

But Inzaghi was not able to have his usual halftime team talk in the dressing room.

That was left to Farris. Because of the head coach’s suspension, his deputy was the one with the responsibility of talking the entire squad through the halftime team talk.

So Inzaghi spoke to Farris briefly. He gave his impressions of the first half, and conveyed the message that he wanted the players to receive.

And evidently, that message through loud and clear.

Inter came out for the second period looking like a much different team. Within ten minutes, they had not just equalized, but then went ahead.
