There’s optimism that Davide Frattesi can be fit for Inter Milan’s Serie A match against Salernitana, but Francesco Acerbi is a different story.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
For the second weekend in a row, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi put out what he saw as his strongest starting eleven against Roma yesterday.
The Nerazzurri have had the luxury of a week off to prepare for matches recently.
But soon that will not be the case. Starting next week, Inter have Champions League commitments once again, against Atletico Madrid.
Therefore, squad rotation will become more important over the coming weeks.
And in that respect, the Nerazzurri could get a boost for next Friday’s match – a clash with bottom-of-the-table Salernitana where rotation has always looked probable.
But also, a potential setback.
Optimism Frattesi Can Be Fit For Inter Vs Salernitana – But Acerbi A Doubt
One player who was not part of Inter’s squad yesterday was midfielder Frattesi.
The 24-year-old former Sassuolo midfielder has been dealing with a thigh problem. That had also prevented him from playing against Juventus last weekend.
This had also left Frattesi’s participation in Friday’s match against Salernitana in doubt.
That would be particularly problematic for Inter from a squad rotation standpoint.
On paper, Frattesi would seem to be one of the first candidates to come into the team against Salernitana.
The Italian international has so far made just one start for Inter in Serie A. But he would be able to relieve a regular starter like Nicolo Barella or Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
According to the Corriere, however, the signs are now pointing to Frattesi being available against the Granate.
The 24-year-old’s recovery is progressing swiftly.
On the other hand, defender Acerbi could miss Friday’s match.
The 35-year-old former Lazio defender went off against Roma yesterday after feeling some tightness in his calf.
Given that this was the same injury that kept Acerbi out for around a month at the start of this season, he would certainly be a doubt for Friday’s match against Salernitana.
