Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij highlights his team’s solidity at the back following the victory over Salernitana.

The Nerazzurri shrugged aside their struggling visitors on Friday night at the Giuseppe Meazza, pummeling them with four unanswered goals.

Marcus Thuram, Lautaro Martinez, Denzel Dumfries and Marko Arnautovic were all on target.

But while the team’s fluid attacking display stole the headlines, de Vrij sheds some light on Inter’s rock-solid backline.

The 32-year-old filled in for the injured Francesco Acerbi at the heart of the back-three.

The Dutchman explains how Simone Inzaghi can confidently change the personnel at the back since all the defenders at the club fully understand their roles on the pitch.

“We did great in the defensive phase,” said the former Lazio defender in his interview with Inter TV via FcInterNews.

“If everyone knows what they have to do it doesn’t change much who plays in the starting lineup, and today we proved it.

“We had a tough test, but the coach always gives us the right instructions.

“It’s very important for a defender to be focused and on the pitch. This is what we managed to do tonight as well. I’m not only talking about myself, but the whole backline.”

The Netherlands international also highlights the importance of scoring early in the match.

“Tonight, we immediately made our intentions pretty clear from the get-go.

“We tried to score goals straight away with the first chances. Scoring early goals certainly helps, but we kept looking for more goals and in the end, we achieved a great victory.”
