Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has officially moved ahead of Mauro Icardi in the Nerazzurri’s list of all-time top goalscorers.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, also note how the Argentine has moved to within eight goals of Istvan Nyers with his strike against Salernitana yesterday.

Martinez scored his twentieth goal of the season in Serie A yesterday.

The Nerazzurri captain has scored 22 in all competitions including his two in the Champions League.

Martinez can now officially say that he’s hit twenty goals in three consecutive league seasons for Inter.

The 26-year-old has not yet broken his personal record for goals in a season. But he is on track to do so with months left to go.

And Martinez will still have the record for goals in a single season (36) of Ciro Immobile and Gonzalo Higuain in the back of his mind.

Lautaro Martinez Overtakes Mauro Icardi In Inter Goalscoring Charts

Martinez’s goal yesterday was also significant in the context of his historical total in an Inter shirt.

The Argentine has now found the back of the net 125 times since joining the Nerazzurri from Racing Club in the summer of 2018.

That means that he has gone ahead of Icardi.

The controversial former Paris Saint-Germain and Sampdoria, and current Galatasaray, striker, was still at Inter when Martinez joined. The latter acted as his understudy for one season.

But Martinez’s remarkable consistency has now seen him overtake his fellow Argentine.

Meanwhile, the Inter captain is now eight goals behind Hungarian striker Nyers.

Nyers scored a total of 133 goals for Inter during his time at the club between 1948 and 1955. He is seventh in the goalscoring charts overall.

Therefore, Martinez would have a more than reasonable chance of catching up to, or even surpassing, Nyers, before the end of the current campaign.
