Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij is keeping his feet on the ground regarding the way forward in the Champions League.

The Dutchman spoke to Italian broadcaster RAI Sport, via FCInterNews, after the Nerazzurri’s 4-0 Serie A victory over Salernitana.

This coming week, Inter turn their attention to the Champions League once again.

It has been more than two months since the Nerazzurri played a match in Europe.

In the meantime, Inter have focused on their Serie A campaign. There, they have managed to build up a ten-point advantage over Juventus at the top of the table.

In the Champions League, Inter finished second in their group, behind Real Sociedad.

The Nerrazzurri take on another Spanish team, Atletico Madrid, in the round of sixteen. The first leg of that tie will be on Tuesday.

And Inter will be confident considering that they are in the form they’re in domestically.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri managed to reach the Champions League final last season. There, they suffered the heartbreak of a narrow defeat to Manchester City.

However, Inter defender de Vrij does not doubt that the team can have another great season on par with last season’s in Europe.

Stefan De Vrij: Inter Taking Things One Match At A Time In Champions League

Looking ahead to the team’s European commitments, de Vrij said that “I think that, as with last season, we have to start by thinking about this next round. Which will be difficult.”

“We’re playing against a good opponent,” the Dutchman continued. “They play good football.”

“We have to stay focused on that match,” de Vrij said. The Inter defender was not too keen on thinking about another final just yet.

As far as the team’s form this season, the defender said that “I think this Inter have been on a brilliant journey in the last few years.”

“We’ve just kept improving,” the 32-year-old continued.

“We’ve been playing together for a long time. Sometimes we basically play by heart, because we always know there the solutions will be.”

“As a player, it’s wonderful to be part of this squad,” the former Lazio defender added.
