Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram feels that his teammate Lautaro Martinez could be the best striker in the world right now.

The Frenchman spoke in a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, as reported by FCInterNews.

This season has seen Thuram and Martinez strike up an impressive partnership in attack.

The quality and versatility of Martinez has been essential to Thuram finding his best form since arriving on a free transfer from Borussia Monchenglabach last summer.

And whilst the Frenchman has done very well, the Argentine has been the real talisman.

Martinez has scored a whopping 22 goals in all competitions so far this season.

For his part, Thuram feels that few strikers if any can currently measure up to his teammate and Inter captain in the world right now.

Marcus Thuram: Lautaro Martinez The Best Striker In The World

Thuram said that “Lautaro is one of the best strikers in the world. If not the best.”

“Playing alongside him his easy,” the Frenchman continued.

“We know what our characteristics are, and what we can do for the team.”

As far as the team’s preparations for tomorrow, Thuram said that “We’re focused on ourselves.”

“We have to have a serious mindset, and work hard in training as always. We need to play a great match at home.”

As far as his France teammate Antoine Griezmann, Thuram said that “He’s an incredible player, as everyone knows.”

“We need to solve the problems that he creates as a team. From the forwards to the defenders.”

“Let’s see how he does tomorrow,” the Inter striker said of Griezmann.

Thuram said that “I’ve learned a lot since I’ve been here.”

“It’s been a great season so far. Let’s hope it continues the way it’s been going.”

Praise For Alexis Sanchez, Tajon Buchanan, Henrikh Mkhitaryan

And of another of his teammates, Thuram said that “It’s an honour to play with Alexis Sanchez.”

“Look at the kind of career he’s had,” he said of the Chilean. “He’s a great player, as he says. I learn a lot from him in training.”

Of Tajon Buchanan, Thuram said that “He’s integrated well. As have all the players who have joined this team.”

“He’s quick and he can beat a defender one-on-one,” he added of the Canadian international.

Of teammte Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Thuram said that “He’s an incredible player. We try and look for one another on the pitch a lot.”

And regarding his coach, the striker said that “Coach Inzaghi is a very frank guy.”

“He tells us things immediately,” the Frenchman continued. “He doesn’t wait three days.”

“That’s a good thing for learning,” Thuram said.

“I still have to improve in every aspect of my game, with and without the ball. There’s a lot for me to learn.”

Meanwhile, of what he sees as Atletico’s strengths, Thuram said “They defend well. They’re strong in possession. And they have great strikers like Morata, Griezmann, Depay.”

“We have to watch out for their counterattacks,” he added.
