Goalkeeper Yann Sommer is proud to represent Inter Milan.

The Swiss international, who joined the Nerazzurri from Bayern Munich last summer, gave his thoughts on playing for the club in the matchday programme for today’s clash with Atletico Madrid.

Sommer is 35, and he has already had a long and illustrious career in football.

But the veteran keeper is now writing one of the most important chapters in it.

Sommer had spent nearly a decade in the Bundesliga. He played for Borussia Monchengladbach for eight and a half seasons, before joining Bayern Munich.

Over six months in Bavaria, Sommer won the Bundesliga title for the first time.

But then the Swiss ended his time in the German top flight.

Sommer decided that he wanted a new adventure, with Inter in Serie A.

And it has been a move that has worked out well, for both the player and his new club.

Sommer has played an important role for Inter as they have romped through the Serie A season. The Nerazzurri currently enjoy a nine-point gap in the table.

So Sommer could win his successive national league title in a row, in a new country.

And this evening the 35-year-old and his teammates take on Atletico Madrid. Sommer and Inter will hope that this is the start of a successful run in the Champions League.

Yann Sommer: Proud To Wear The Inter Shirt

“Many legends have played for Inter,” Sommer said in the matchday programme.

“From Julio Cesar to Ronaldo, Zanetti.”

“Cambiasso, Baggio. There has been a long series of great players here.”

The former Bayern keeper added that “Wearing this shirt makes me feel proud.”

“Wearing it means being part of a historically great club,” Sommer said.

The goalkeeper added that “All we can do is give our all to win together.”
