Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto feels that the Nerazzurri showed the strength of their group against Atletico Madrid.

Speaking to InterTV after the Nerazzurri beat the Colchoneros 1-0 in a Champions League round of sixteen first leg, via FCInterNews, the Brazilian hailed the squad’s quality and mentality.

Inter got the result that they wanted to against Atletico this evening.

It was not an easy match. As expected, the team from the Spanish capital were a tough nut to crack, physical and organized.

But in the end, Inter proved to be too much for the Colchoneros at the San Siro.

There will be a second leg in three weeks’ time. And everything will be there to play for in that match in Madrid.

But for now, Inter can feel that they did what they aimed to as the round of sixteen tie reaches its halftime period.

And it required a big effort from everyone.

There were the performances from the starting eleven. But just as importantly, the contributions from the substitutes also helped Inter to the result.

Wingbacks Augusto and Denzel Dumfries gave the Nerazzurri life and energy in the second half.

And it was striker Marko Arnautovic who got the decisive goal on the night.
